Overall Purpose

The job of Family Engagement Specialist is done for the purpose/s of brokering family services, tracking attendance and reasons for absences, bridging the home/school learning environments, documenting family goals, tracking progress, brokering services toward family goals, and overseeing and ensuring timely communication with parents and staff; translating program documents; interpreting during meetings, appointments, etc.

Required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and planning and managing projects.

Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: child and adult learning principles; and best social work practices.

Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; networking and facilitating communications; motivating others; and developing and implementing effective conflict resolution.

 

Requirements

Associate’s degree

Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, sociology, psychology or related field preferred

Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish preferred

Valid Georgia Driver’s License

 

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

 

Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing.
