Overall Purpose

The job of Student Enrollment and Support Specialist for the purpose/s of supporting students enrolled at the Athens Community Career Academy. This individual will collaborate with the Career Academy Leadership Team to provide academic support to students dual enrolled with Athens Technical College. Additionally, this individual will work with students, teachers and parents to ensure that classroom and school climates enhance academic learning and success; providing academic support and remediation for students at risk of failure; and collaborates and supporting teachers and parents to ensure student success and the completion of career pathways.

Essential Functions

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of subject material skills.
  • Identifies students who are academically at-risk and develops strategies to address their needs.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with administrators around student academic progress. 
  • Coordinates communications between instructors, students, and parents. 
  • Oversees the recruitment and retention of Clarke County School District high school students enrolled at the Career Academy.
  • Communicates with, tracks and follows-up with potential program applicants from CCSD High Schools. 
  • Serves as liaison and support for college instructors teaching on site at the Career Academy. 
  • Provides effective communication between students, parents, instructors, and administrative staff.  
  • Assists students, individually or in small groups, in a variety of ways (lesson assignments, writing assistance, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Serves as academic adviser for students dual enrolled with Athens Technical College.
  • Communicates with teacher of record regarding student issues (behavioral, academic, attendance, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student academic progress and/or implementing intervention or meeting educational program objective.
  • Works with school administrators, support personnel, teachers, colleagues and parents to ensure that students meet their career pathway and academic goals.
  • Works to develop materials that can be used as academic interventions at home.
  • Attends a variety of meetings (staff meetings, in-service presentations, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Collaborates with the community to develop outreach activities that foster family engagement and school-home communication.
  • Provides intervention strategies (scripted instruction, self-paced digital programs, etc.) for the purpose of helping students achieve academic success by overcoming learning challenges.
  • Reports observations of student incidents (accidents, altercations, inappropriate behavior, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent

Associate’s degree with at least two (2) years’ study preferred

At least 21 years’ of age (individuals who have a minimum credit hours and hold an Associate’s Degree or higher do not have to meet the minimum 21 years of age requirement)

 

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. 

 

Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 40% walking, and 35% standing.
