DESCRIPTION: The position of Hall Monitor is intended to provide extra supervision in areas of high traffic while contributing to a positive culture and climate. This includes establishing rapport with students in order to assist them with any concerns or refer them to someone on the staff who can help. The work is performed under the general direction of the School Principal with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments. 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  Monitors school halls, stairwells, restrooms, courtyards, entrances, and other assigned areas to provide additional supervision of students; reports periodically to principal/security on problems, incidents, and conditions affecting security, either orally or in writing; develops a rapport with students in order to act as a sounding board for students so they can have someone to talk to about their school or personal problems and either assists them or refers them to someone who can help them; 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Working knowledge of the problems facing young adults; ability to perform the actions necessary to provide proper supervision of students in high traffic areas;  ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out monitoring duties; ability to relate to, get along with and earn the respect of young adults; ability to understand and carry out written or oral directions;  ability to articulate the problems and concerns of the students to the school administration;  demonstrates concern for the welfare of young adults; and understanding of the value of receiving an education and ability to transmit this knowledge to students. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience in youth service work, recreation, education, or any other activity involving service to youth.
