Overall Purpose

The job of the Director of Data and Research is done for the purpose of collaborating with the CCSD leadership team to help CCSD become a learning organization that continuously improves its work, measures its impact, and shares important learnings both internally and externally to further organizational improvement. The Director of Data and Research will be responsible for high-level visioning and implementation of CCSD’s organizational measurement priorities, including understanding the range of quantitative and qualitative data currently collected, strengthening these systems in alignment with the strategic plan, driving development and implementation of new systems and structures, and helping to communicate compelling stories of impact to a variety of stakeholders. The Director will bolster systems to support data-driven decision-making within the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Works with CCSD’s leadership team to determine and prioritize strategies for assessing organizational impact, including Student Performance Indicators, and Measures of Organizational Effectiveness.
  • Works with CCSD’s leadership team to establish internal data use policies and systems.
  • Works with a team of Student Information System specialists to manage student information across the district.
  • Collaborates with departments to identify appropriate impact measures and build systems to track project outcomes.
  • Plans for and nurtures CCSD’s data-driven culture including building tools and processes for data sharing, reflection, and analysis with staff.
  • Oversees external evaluation and research partnerships.
  • Leads the evaluation of research proposals through existing and new research partnerships.
  • Analyzes, synthesizes, and produces key insights that can easily inform multiple audiences across CCSD and in the community.
  • Supports CCSD staff in creating, interpreting, and sharing impact and outcome measures with both internal and external audiences.
  • Facilitates regular data reflection conversations and trainings with key CCSD staff to inform continuous improvement.
  • Designs and manages programmatic evaluation systems.
  • Implements a variety of evaluation methodologies (including surveying) across diverse contexts with attention to the scope and utility of a given method.
  • Builds trust and successful relationships with all CCSD departments; serves as an internal consultant to help CCSD achieve objectives related to impact and research.
  • Manages projects across a range of departments and embeds focus on impact into CCSD’s work.
  • Facilitates problem-solving and decision-making meetings with internal teams.
  • Designs and manages projects to meet objectives with minimal guidance.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds, views, and positions.
  • Supports an inclusive team culture that encourages diverse perspectives and innovative thinking.
  • Uses data to identify gaps and inequities in the educational system to inform CCSD’s work.
  • Uses role to highlight the impact of work on traditionally underserved populations.
  • Prioritizes internally- and externally-facing work effectively to achieve goals.

Competencies

  • Skills-based Competencies

Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies preferred to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: statistical analysis and interpretation; SQL programming; data systems integration, such as the use of SFTP sites for secure data transfer; using a variety of software applications with advanced proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; research and best practices in organizational development, change processes, strategic planning, school improvement accountability processes, program planning, and development; and principles of best teaching practices and learning styles.

Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem-solving with equipment is moderate. Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Master’s degree or higher preferred

Three (3) years’ administrative/supervisory experience

Experience with data analysis and reporting

Experience with K-12 schools preferred

Experience with data analysis software preferred

Experience with SQL programming preferred

Experience with data systems integration preferred

 

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

 

Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.
